Dr. Ginsberg’s BOoks

My books are written for two groups of people: K-12 professional developers, teachers, educators, and post-secondary and post-secondary faculty developers and faculty.

The central idea of my books is that an intrinsic theory of motivation represents and serves the interests of all learners, within and across cultural groups, in educational settings and beyond. When learners feel respected by and connected to others while learning, when they endorse or determine relevant learning, and when they engage in challenging and authentic experiences that enhance their effectiveness in what they value, they learn.

However, instruction that supports the educational attainment of students from diverse backgrounds is a highly nuanced endeavor in which culture, motivation, and instructional design are inseparable concerns (Gay, 2010; Adams, Bell, & Griffin, 2007; Kitayama & Markus, 1994, Geertz, 1973).

ENhancing adult motivation to learn

A Comprehensive guide for teaching all adults

Enhancing Adult Motivation to Learn provides adult educators with the information and strategies they need to guide non-traditional students toward positive educational outcomes. Providing a clear framework, guidelines for instructional planning, real-world examples, and cutting-edge ideas, this book fills the need for intrinsically motivating instruction targeted specifically toward adults returning to school. This new fourth edition sharpens the focus on community colleges, where most first-generation college students and working adults begin their higher education, and explores the rising use of technology and alternative delivery methods including a new chapter covering online instruction.
